The Plan

Wind through the undulating Weald of Kent before descending down to Hastings for fish and chips on the beach and a visit to the Jerwood Gallery. Then over the Down, and into Rye for tea and a wander around the quaint historic lanes. We then follow a bike path all the way to the gorgeous beach and dunes at Camber Sands for a wild swim before setting off for a shower and freshen up at our campsite.

Our venue for our gourmet dinner is the Gallivant hotel. The restaurant uses good local produce including Romney Marsh lamb and freshly caught fish. The wine list has over five pages of English wines!

On Sunday, after a yoga class on the beach indulge in a huge brunch back at the Gallivant. Then we're back on our bikes to make our way to the bleak, other-worldly Dungeness, made famous by the filmmaker Derek Jarman. Quiet country lanes take us back to Ashford for a super quick 30min journey to St Pancras station.

The Cycling

Approximately 85 miles over 2 days with about 700m of ascent. The hills are not too long!

What's included

  • Bag drop off and collect to the campsite on Saturday and to Ashford station on Sunday so you only need to carry a day bag for the cycle.
  • Guided cycling with an experienced guide with knowledge of the area.
  • Mechanical support.
  • Entrance to the Jerwood Gallery. Fish and chip lunch not included. You are welcome to bring your own food instead.
  • All meals at the Gallivant, so dinner on Saturday, and breakfast on Sunday. Drinks not included.
  • Accommodation on Saturday night at the campsite.

What to bring and what to wear

  • Any bicycle in good working order will do apart from fixed gear and single speed bikes as the hills can be quite steep!
  • Cycling shorts or padded undershorts to keep you comfortable in the saddle.
  • Something waterproof in case it rains, (don't worry so much about your legs ? they dry off!)
  • A helmet if you have one.
  • A small day bag for the cycle, in a pannier if you have one, for a water bottle, energy snacks, suncream etc.
  • Swimming things and a small towel if you fancy a swim.
  • Smartish casual clothes for The Gallivant restaurant (no shorts) and a warm jacket for the campsite if you have one.
  • Your overnight stuff.
